This week has been very busy for Gold class. We've had assemblies, birthdays, and fun workshops!

In our literacy lessons, we have been focusing on poems and rhyming couplets. Rhyming couplets are two words that rhyme together. You can usually find them in poems at the end of a sentence. We brainstormed some ideas and then had the chance to come up with our own poems. We also had to do a boring reading assessment but luckily it was sort of easy.

We started the week with an exciting and very interesting workshop on problem solving. We were given many challenges that we had to solve in groups of six. We found some harder than others but the penguin challenge was the hardest of them all. We also had a school council assembly where we had a visitor come in and tell us a story about an amazing boy who escaped a carpet factory that forced children aged 4/5/6 to make carpets. It was very shocking and sad to hear.

In general news, we celebrated Mrs Anderson's birthday. We sang her happy birthday in Spanish and enjoyed some yummy and scrumptious cakes!!! It was all very exciting!

This week has been a week full of hard assessments for year 3 gold!

We started off by doing an extremely difficult numeracy test. It had questions on fractions, addition, subtraction and loads more. We also did a second test which was not as hard as the first one. We then did a reading test. We found this to be really difficult but we still tried our best and did not give up,

For our literacy assessment, we first had to write a recap of our trip to the Natural History Museum. We then wrote a fictional story about an adventure that takes place in the museum at night. We had to use exciting language such as adjectives, verbs, adverbs, nouns, fronted adverbial, similes and much more. We found this much more fun and easier than our maths assessment! This week also gave us a chance to work on our green pen comments.

In our general news today, it's Katie's birthday and she has brought in chocolate cake and loads of other treats to share with all her friends. We can't wait to eat them! Also, we have some sad news. Our friend, Maryam is leaving us to go to another school :( We have made up a leaving song for her and made a lovely card to wish her all the best.

This week is the last week before half term. That means we get a week off of school and we're so excited but we are going to miss all our friends and teachers!

This week, year three gold has had lots of fun!

On Wednesday we visited the Natural History Museum and we had an amazing time! The first thing we did was complete a booklet we were given. We had to answer some questions on rocks, minerals, and metals. We also saw some fantastic fossils and bones. One of them was a gigantic dinosaur called a Diplodocus. We also learnt about earthquakes and went into a terrifying room where the floor began to shake so we could understand what an earthquake feels like. There was also a huge room full of shiny, sparkly and sharp crystals!

In our literacy this week, we have been learning about Kenning poems. Kenning poems use two word lines that describe a certain thing. We made our own Kenning poems in our groups. We then made our own ones by ourselves. We used verbs, adjectives, nouns and adverbs. In R.E we are leaning about Islam. We learnt about the five pillars of Islam and looked at mosques.

We also have some general news! On Monday, we celebrated George's birthday. He brought in some home made delicious smartie cookies. They were yum. Today, it's Micheal's birthday and we are going to celebrate it this afternoon with some treats that he has brought in. We're so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Perfect perimeters!

This week, Year 3 Gold did lots of fun things in our lessons!

In numeracy, we learnt about how to find the perimeter of lots of different shapes. We learnt that finding the perimeter is when you add together all of the sides. We then made a stone age map using art straws and the perimeter of 2D shapes. We also learnt what a trapezium is! A trapezium has four sides!

In literacy we were looking at what a journalist is and what they do. A journalist is someone who writes about loads of different subjects like the weather or sports. We learnt about the different features of a newspaper article and we interviewed our friends! We even had the opportunity to write our own pretend article.

For our topic lessons, we had a closer look at sedimentary rocks and where they came from. Sedimentary rocks can be found on mountains and cliffs.

We had LOADS of fun things to learn and it has been exciting!!!!!

This week, year 3 gold had some fantastic experiences! In our numeracy lessons we learnt how to use the expanded column method, which is when you use partitioning and addition. We also had a visit from the Dogs Trust. They are people who look after mistreated dogs and find new homes for them. We met a dog called Tiger in an assembly and he showed us some tricks!

We also made non-chronological reports called fact files. These were about the amazing Stone Age. We found out that cave people did cave paintings using blood and berries. In our Science lessons, we learnt about the different types of rocks like sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous rocks.

We also have some general news! We had a new boy in our class who started on Thursday. His name was Michael and he is very good at Maths. It was also Sophie's birthday and we celebrated by getting some delicious chocolate!!!!!!
